Jon Bolding Once Again Selected to Play for England
10th March 2017
Powerchair football champion Jon Bolding’s hard work has paid off once again as he has been selected to play for England in the Powerchair Football World Cup! Mark Bates Ltd are very proudly sponsoring Jon through his football career and caught up with him following this exciting news;
“Over the last year a number of players within England have been attending a trial weekend to be part of the England squad which travels to Florida in July to participate in the 3rd Powerchair Football World Cup.
I have been lucky enough to have been picked for the team which I am overjoyed about and am looking forward to the training camps and then the tournament itself.
We have 5 training camps from now until July for us to all gel and work together to achieve our goal of bringing home the World Cup. As a country we have been on the cusp of glory for the last 2 tournaments. We were in the final of the Euro’s which took place in 2014 but unfortunately we lost to France. We also were in the final of the previous World Cup which again we unfortunately lost to USA who are the current holders.
I feel we are going to this World Cup with the best chance any team England has ever had. We have got a team of players who are currently playing at their peak and we now have the equipment that the rest of the world have so we are playing on a level playing field which previously was not the case.
We fly out to Florida on the 1st July and then the tournament starts on the 5th July.
http://fipfaworldcup.org/ is the website which has all of the information about the tournament and closer to the time there will be a link in which will be viewing the games live.
We have our first camp following the final selection next weekend and that’s where the real hard preparation starts and we grow together to then bring the trophy home.”
On another note, Jon will be appearing on a TV program called Footy Pups. This is a children’s TV show about football and will air on Friday 17th March on Cbeebies at 17:35.
The show is designed to teach children the different ways the skills needed in football can be used and this episode is all about Powerchair football. Jon is the special guest who will help the children and teach them how to play. It shows kids who don't have a disability getting in a wheelchair and attempting to play the sport for the first time.
