New procedures from Equality and Human Rights Commission
24th March 2016
Anyone working as Direct Payment advisor is likely to be involved in the recruitment process from time to time. It can be a time consuming task to find the most suitable PA available for the person you are supporting, but critical and essential to their well-being and on-going experience as a DP employer.
Alongside supporting the employer it is also important to consider the rights of applicants during the recruitment process. From advertising and shortlisting right through to interviewing and appointing the successful applicant, it is essential people are treated fairly.
Sometimes simply knowing what should and shouldn’t be included in an advert can be difficult to know. In recognition of this the Equality and Human Rights Commission have recently published some guidance around the content of advertisements, a corresponding checklist and Frequently Asked Questions sheet. Well worth a look if only to refresh your knowledge in time for the next recruitment campaign!
National Living Wage – ACAS website update:
Regular readers of our newsletter will know we have previously written about the forthcoming introduction of a National Living Wage of £7.20 per hour for workers and employees who are 25 and over. Officially introduced on the 1st April 2016 this is effectively an increase to the National Minimum Wage for people over 25.
In light of the changes ACAS have helpfully updated their website with some useful facts and figures including some interesting information regarding the penalties for non-compliance. Definitely worth a read.
