Our first National Championships took place last weekend - and what a weekend it was. A tiring and emotional one but a delightful time for us to help drive the sport of Table Tennis forward.
Although some of our company have taken part in similar championships before, we were still taken aback by the dedication they all have to each event. The hard work of everyone over the weekend includes loads of volunteers who give up their time to make everything run smoothly.
Our staff spoke to a large number of people, some of which already had a policy with us and many more that took out cover after talking to us. It is always an enjoyable experience to interact with people and answer the questions they have about our company and the insurance needs they may have.
Mark was on hand for most of the weekend to present winners medals, and trophies to the majority of the winners. With many people recognising him from his time following Emily and Michael around the country competing in the junior championships. Emily won a raft of singles and doubles titles from Under-10s to Juniors, while Michael was Cadet Boys' Doubles champion alongside Gavin Evans.
Some of our staff were complete newbies to even watching Table Tennis, but soon become enthralled with the play. The Mark Bates Ltd National champions ships showcased many players at the top of their game including Molli Paterson who achieved medals in both under 21 and seniors. Tin-Tin Ho who once again dominated the ladies game, Ross Wilson narrowly overcoming Kim Daybell and thrilling end to the para class 3-2 with Jack Hunter-Spivey winning a decider.
We all managed to sit down and watch the last match and not enough words can be written about the battle in the men's singles. Paul Drinkhall was very unlucky to be beaten in the final by a fabulous display from Liam Pitchford who won his sixth title.
As Mark spoke about before the men's singles final, our business is proud to be supporting such a great sport and helping to improve the development of some of the sports top players as well as bring through the next generation. We are now really looking forward to the cadet and junior events later in the year and meeting more fantastic people.
